Lucas is an amazing voice teacher— he has a wonderful ability to hear unexpected causes of vocal issues, and has a great toolkit of solutions that he uses wisely to improve vocal production, ease, and enjoyment— sometimes he takes a very methodical, objective, and scientific route from his intensive experience in vocal pedagogy & other times he can pinpoint emotional / spiritual / psychological blockages that once released allow artistry to flow, which fixes a lot of technical issues as well. I started working with Mr. Coura last year in the late winter. It was my first time taking voice lessons and I think that he is a great teacher who helped me feel more comfortable with my singing voice. I have always been insecure about my voice and would always be super nervous to sing for shows, but I never had someone who could teach me on how to improve the way that Mr. Coura has. This year I think that we’ve grown more in our student-teacher relationship than last year, and I’ve been more open to sharing my insecurities and he is always giving me great advice that teaches me to have a better mindset when it comes to learning how to become a good singer. Something I appreciate that he does, is that he takes his time teaching me a song. We don’t rush into something new until we both feel that I am solid on the first piece. This is the best way I learn and I’m grateful that Mr. Coura understands that. Overall I think that he is a wonderful teacher and a joy to work with. He has helped me improve so much as a singer. Not only technique wise but confidence wise as well, which is huge for me. I am thankful that he is my teacher and I am excited to work with him again in the next year.
