In the concert hall, on operatic stages, and over online mediums, Brazilian-American countertenor Lucas Ludwig Coura distinguishes himself as a vulnerable and expressive performer in diverse musical idioms. Lucas made his Boston debut singing Doodle in Stefan Weisman and David Cote’s “The Scarlet Ibis” with Boston Opera Collaborative, in which he was lauded for his “angelic voice” (The Theatre Times). He has also performed Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare (Chicago Summer Opera), Claudio in Silla (Cambridge Chamber Ensemble), and Endimione in La Calisto (New England Conservatory Opera).
Lucas has performed the alto solos in Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Britten’s Canticle II. He made his countertenor debut in Bach’s St. John Passion under the direction of Simon Carrington (Stetson University). In 2021, Lucas earned his MM from New England Conservatory, where he studied with Dr. Ian Howell.
